Handle Someone's Indifference

How to respond to someone who appears distracted, ambivalent or apathetic and determine the underlying reasons.

  • Not everyone expresses emotions in the same way. Don't assume. Ask how they feel or what they're experiencing.
  • If you're concerned about resistance, feedback your observations and ask what you can do to get them more engaged.
  • If indifference is impacting performance, reiterate expectations, letting the person know why their input is important.
